A striking, one-of-a-kind art piece that captures nature’s power and beauty — thoughtfully shaped and preserved to make a dramatic statement in any space.
The main body is crafted from Scottish Burr Oak sourced from West Lothian, timber that has stood for 150 years and been carefully air-dried for a full decade. That patient, 10-year curing process brings out the depth, stability, and breathtaking richness of the burr — a rare and precious material.
This piece is named “Scorched” — and every detail lives up to the name. The wood has been flattened and burnt, then sanded on the flat faces to reveal and emphasise the full, intricate beauty of the burr grain. By contrast, the natural edges and deep organic cracks are left with their dramatic scorched finish — deep, glossy black, textured and rich, creating a powerful contrast between warm honeyed oak and dark, charred depth. Every curve, crevice, and burn mark tells a story.
Mounted on a solid base of Scottish Spalted Ash, sourced from the same West Lothian area — a beautiful companion timber with its own distinctive dark veining and character, grounding the piece and echoing the provenance of the oak above.
The entire sculpture is finished with hard wax oil, protecting every surface — smooth and scorched alike — while preserving the natural texture, depth, and feel of the wood. No heavy coating, just the material itself, enhanced and safeguarded.
This is not simply a sculpture — it is a piece of Scottish history, reimagined. No other burr, no other burn, no other form will ever be the same. A bold, timeless work of art to cherish and pass down.
