I had the pleasure of meeting this lovely couple at the Great British Food Festival, where they shared their vision with me: a small table, just 50 cm high, for their garden room — and above all, it had to be perfect for that most British of traditions: the afternoon cup of tea.
For such a personal piece, I chose Welsh Yew from the Dolau area — timber with real character, its deep, beautiful markings and flowing veins making every slab utterly unique. This particular top holds a wonderful natural knot right where it belongs, adding so much warmth and individuality. I carefully rounded every edge and sanded it to a smooth, soft finish, then sealed it with hard wax oil to protect and enhance the grain — built to stay beautiful through years of daily use.
To complement the rich, traditional timber, I fitted simple, elegant two‑pin legs from the Hairpin Leg Company — a clean, modern touch that brings the table to exactly the right height. Seeing their teacup set in place said it all: this isn’t just furniture, it’s their quiet corner, ready to serve them for years to come.
